I saw it!

I saw the space shuttle Atlantis from our backyard in Ocklawaha this afternoon. Ocklawaha is about 2 1/2 hour drive from Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral.

The picture above is courtesy of NASA. What I saw was a small streaming spec between the tree tops for just a few seconds. It was still neat!

Too bad hubby missed the experience.

Very cool. I’m in Naples, FL which is on the Gulf coast, about as far south as you can get. Perhaps 250 miles from Kennedy Space Center. I saw the Shuttle from here earlier this year when it took off at dusk. I think the time of day helped, since it was reflecting the sun. With binoculars I was even able to see the separation of the solid rocket boosters. It’s really quite a sight, even when it’s only a dot in the sky.

Our family have told us that night launch is spectacular. We hope we get to witness one before we leave FL.

I’ve lived in FL my whole life and never heard of Ocklawaha! Learn something new everyday ๐Ÿ™‚ We saw it too, I’m glad it’s not the last, but we’re slowly running out of launches. ๐Ÿ™

    Hehehehe! It’s a 2 lights town. ๐Ÿ™‚
